Last week we had great fun celebrating Science Week in our school. We carried out many wonderful experiments and STEM activities in all the classrooms!

Ms Nugget and some of the senior students carried out experiments in all the classrooms. Experiments included investigating how heat was conducted, what material is best to insulate a hot drink and also the walking water investigation.

Junior and Senior Infants called to Mrs Currans, 1st and 2nd class to complete a STEM challenge to build the tallest tower out of spaghetti and marshmallows. They showed great team work and engineering skills. Juniors and Seniors were really excited learning about volcanos.

Using the nursery rhyme Jack & Jill as a stimulus, 1st and 2nd invented ways to help Jack & Jill bring the water down the hill instead of a bucket. They worked together in groups to invent ways which included underground piping & creating a river to move the water down.

Mr Daly’s class  class took part in two Science webinars. First was the Curious Minds webinar where the children observed various science experiments. They also watched a webinar on Astellas where they got the opportunity to observe around the factory and learn what happens there.

The children of 5 th and 6 th class enjoyed a webinar where they were brought on a tour of
Astellas in Killorglin and learned about the work and products that they make there. They
also conducted an experiment exploring the importance of hand washing and how we can
pass on bacteria. The children also learned about the digestive system with Ms. Cournane.
and they also participated in the Curious Minds Science show!
